SidewalkHero is a community-powered app that helps people report, verify, and track sidewalk hazards. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using SidewalkHero, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. We use your email to create and authenticate your account. Your email is never displayed to other users or shared publicly.
Display name. You choose a display name when you first sign in. This name is visible to other users on reports, the leaderboard, and your profile. You can change it at any time.
Location data. We collect your GPS location when you submit a report, vote on an existing report, or when the app detects your city and zip code on first use. Location data is only collected while you are actively using the app. We do not track your location in the background.
Reports. When you submit a report, we store the category, issue type, severity rating, GPS coordinates, and timestamp. Reports are visible to all authenticated users on the map.
Photos. If you attach a photo to a report, it is uploaded and stored securely. Photos are not displayed publicly in the app. They may be used in aggregate to support city infrastructure reports.
Votes. When you vote on a report ("Still there" or "Not there"), we store your user ID, the vote type, your severity rating, and a timestamp.
Device information. We may collect basic device information such as your Android version and device model for the purpose of debugging and improving app performance.

Your display name, rank, and report activity are visible to other authenticated users within the app. Your email, city, zip code, and precise location history are never shared with other users.
We may share aggregate, anonymized data with city governments and civic organizations to support sidewalk infrastructure improvements. This data does not identify individual users.
Your data is stored on Supabase servers in the US East (N. Virginia) region. All connections between the app and our servers are encrypted. We use row-level security policies to ensure users can only access and modify their own data. Access to all data requires authentication.

SidewalkHero is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@sidewalkhero.app and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
